Are you planning a day trip to Mostar, Bosnia? If so, you’ve landed on the right article.
Mostar is a charming Old Town in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, with beautiful bridges, mosques, and architecture that looks straight out of a postcard. It’s a 2-3 hour drive from both Split and Dubrovnik, making it one of the best day trip opportunities from Croatia.
I spent a full day wandering around Mostar, and it ended up being my favorite city I visited in my entire trip!
This article will cover all of the best things to do in Mostar, from admiring architecture to trying Bosnian coffee and pastries, and more.
Here are 11 amazing things to do in Mostar that you won’t want to miss.

Best Things To Do In Mostar
Visit Old Bridge

In the heart of Old Town, Mostar’s bridge (Stari Most) is a medieval 16th-century Ottoman bridge that runs over the Neretva River.

This bridge has a spectacular view of the city’s stone buildings, mosques, and bright blue river, making it one of the most popular viewpoints in town. You’ll have views of this bridge as you stroll around Old Town, and it’s more beautiful than you could have expected in person!
Shop For Souvenirs In The Bazaar

Mostar has a lively Bazaar in Old Town that stretches along the main street, on both sides of the bridge. The bazaar has a wonderful selection of souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, and everything from copper cookware to carpets.

Tucked in between the vendors you’ll find gelato shops, cafes, and restaurants. I loved strolling around the bazaar, and was very surprised with how cheap some of the souvenirs were.
Keep in mind that it can be incredibly busy during the day, so it’s best to visit early in the morning, or in the evening as the sun goes down.

Try Bosnian Coffee

No trip to Mostar would be complete without trying traditional Bosnian coffee. Traditional Bosnian coffee is a unique unfiltered type of coffee, prepared in a copper-plated pot (džezva).
It’s served in the pot it’s prepared in, along with an empty cup, a glass of water, and a cup full of sugar cubes on a tray. There are dozens of cafes in Old Town that serve this traditional coffee, and almost all of them will explain the proper way to drink it!
Bosnian coffee is meant to be enjoyed slowly, and the cafes are the perfect place to sit and relax as you stroll downtown.
Visit Karadoz Beg Mosque

The Karadoz Beg Mosque is a beautiful 16th-century Ottoman mosque in Old Town, with a minaret that you can climb. It costs around 3 euros to enter the mosque, and an additional few euros to climb up the minaret.
It’s worth touring the inside if you love architecture, but you’ll have amazing views of it from the Old Town bridge alone.
See the Crooked Bridge

The Crooked Bridge (Kriva Ćuprija) is a must-see bridge in Old Town that’s a miniature version of Mostar’s Bridge.
It’s a 16th century arched stone bridge that runs over a small river, and another wonderful photo opportunity. To get to it, you’ll cross over the main bridge (opposite of the bazaar), take the first left, and continue walking.
Enjoy City Views From Fortica Hill

To escape the crowds of Old Town, head to Fortica Hill. This is a hill perched above Mostar at an elevation of around 2,000 feet, with a beautiful view overlooking the city.
If you’re up for an adventure, you can go ziplining or walk across the skywalk at the top. I didn’t have a rental car, so I chose to hike partway up Fortica Hill.
It was a steep uphill hike, where I saw ruins of a fort, and large tortoises hiding in the bushes! The hike can take well over an hour, so I highly recommend hiring a taxi to get to the top.
Try Bosnian Pastries

Beyond traditional coffee, Bosnia has many delicious pastries and desserts worth trying out. Head to Ottoman in Old Town to try everything from chocolate baklava to lokum (turkish delights).
You’ll also find a variety of vendors in the bazaar selling baklava for cheap, and cafes that serve traditional coffee with lokum!
Visit the Museum of War & Genocide

The Museum of War & Genocide is a museum dedicated to the Bosnian war (1992-1998), that contains informative exhibits, preserved items, and testimonials from victims of the war.
It was created and maintained by families of victims of the war, and well worth visiting to learn about the history of the city. The entrance is 18KM (9€)/person when I visited, and it’s located just outside of the bazaar.
Go On A Day Trip To Kravica Waterfall or Blagaj Tekija Mosque
If you have a car, there’s two amazing day trip opportunities from Mostar. The Kravica waterfall is a stunning cascading waterfall with a plunge pool that straddles the Bosnia Croatia border.
It’s around an hour’s drive from the old town, and is 20KM (10€)/person. You can swim in the waterfall so make sure to pack a swimsuit if visiting in the summer!
The Blagaj Tekija Mosque is a medieval Ottoman monastery built in 1520, that’s less than a 30 minute drive from Mostar. It’s nestled at the bottom of a 200 ft rock cliff beside the Buna river, and a photographer’s dream.
I unfortunately didn’t get the chance to visit it, but it’s easily accessible by public bus. You can view the Mostar to Blagaj bus schedule here. Entrance to the monastery is 10KM (5€)/person.
See mural art near Old Town (Fassadenmalerei)

Not far from the old city, there is an area of mural art and graffiti that’s referred to as “Fassadenmalerei” on google maps. It’s less than a 10 minute walk from the old city, and has some of the most unique graffiti art I’ve ever seen.
Visit the Sniper Tower
Beyond the war museum, the Sniper Tower is another place worth visiting to get a glimpse into the Bosnian war. It’s a multilevel tower that was once used as a sniper base, and is now abandoned, and covered in graffiti art.
It shows up as the “Sniper Tower” on maps, and is less than a 20 minute walk from Old Bridge.
