1. Watch The Sunset From Airport Mesa

For the best sunset view in town, head to the Sedona Airport Mesa Scenic Lookout. This is a beautiful viewpoint overlooking West Sedona, and iconic mountains like Chimney Rock, and Thunder Mountain.
It’s $3 to park at the large dirt parking lot by the lookout (no Red Rock passes accepted).

For an even better view, you can visit the Airport Mesa Vortex, a panoramic viewpoint of West Sedona and Bell Rock, on the bottom of Sedona’s airport hill.

Check out our guide to visiting Airport Mesa Vortex for step by step directions on how to get there.
2. Enjoy A Sunset Dinner With Red Rock Views
As the sun begins to set, head to Mariposa Latin Grill to enjoy a fancy meal overlooking the red rocks.
Mariposa Latin Grill is a fine dining latin restaurant with outdoor seating, and arguably the best sunset view in town. Here are some other great restaurants with a view.
- The Hudson: American restaurant known for their bruschetta with patio seating and a gorgeous view of the red rocks
- Mesa Grill: American restaurant on top of Sedona’s airport hill, with a beautiful view of the red rocks and planes leaving the airport.
3. Go Stargazing With An Astronomer
Sedona is a designated International Dark Sky Community, and considered one of the best places to go stargazing in Arizona.
You can go stargazing on your own, or join a stargazing tour to use professional telescopes to view the galaxy with an astronomer.
The best places to go stargazing in Sedona are a few miles outside of downtown, where there’s little light pollution. Many of Sedona’s hiking trails are excellent places for stargazing, and I had a great view of the stars at Fay Canyon’s trailhead.
Here are some of the best stargazing locations in town if you plan on going on your own:
- Fay Canyon Trail
- Aerie Trailhead
- Thunder Mountain Trailhead
- Two Trees Observing Area
- Baldwin Trailhead
For your convenience, I’ve pinned them on the map below.
4. Shop And Dine In Uptown

Sedona has a lively downtown shopping plaza, lined with boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, and unique shops.
There’s many small shops open till 8pm, selling everything from candles to spices, and souvenirs. This is a fun place to stroll around after dinner, and you can stop for dessert at the Sedona Fudge Company or PussyCat gelato.
If you’re staying in the Village of Oak Creek, the Collective is another great shopping center with small craft shops and art galleries.
5. Learn How To Make Glass Art
If you’re looking for a unique nighttime activity, take a glassblowing workshop at The Melting Point.
You’ll get a hands-on demonstration of glassblowing art, and leave the session having created your own glass flower! They offer evening sessions, and it’s the perfect activity for all ages.
Hike Baldwin Trail At Sunset

If you’re looking for the perfect sunset hike, hike the Baldwin trail.
This trail has the best view of Cathedral Rock in town, and during sunset, you’ll get to watch the mountain glow a fiery orange.
This is also an amazing spot for astrophotography if you want to capture the stars over Cathedral Rock!
The trailhead for this hike is located on the opposite side of the river as the Crescent Moon Picnic Site, which has picnic areas, and a parking fee of $12/vehicle.

You can park at the Crescent Moon Picnic Site for closer access to the river, but keep in mind that it closes at 6pm.
Enjoy A Western Dinner Show At Blazin M Ranch
Stop by the Blazin M Ranch in Cottonwood to watch a Western stage show with dinner.
This is an old western frontier town with saloons, mechanical bulls, axe throwing, mini golf and more.
Their chuckwagon dinner show starts around sunset, and is the perfect night time activity for the whole family!
Go On A Ghost Tour In Jerome

If you’re up for a thrill, go on a night time ghost tour in Jerome! Jerome is a ghost town perched on top of Cleopatra Hill, a half hour outside of Sedona.
This town historically operated as a mining town, and was rebuilt several times due to explosions and catastrophic fires.

It’s now a popular tourist attraction, and the main street’s lined with quirky shops, restaurants, historic saloons, and museums.
In Jerome, you can dine out at the Haunted Hamburger, or go on a night time ghost tour to check out the supposedly buildings.

Visit Lowell Observatory In Flagstaff

If you love astronomy, go on a day trip to the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff.
The Lowell Observatory is the astronomical observatory that discovered Pluto, and they have a rooftop dark sky planetarium that offers stargazing sessions.
Additionally, they have a public viewing plaza with 6 professional telescopes you can use to view the night sky. If you’re looking for the best stargazing opportunity in Arizona, this is definitely it.

In Cornville, you can stop by Page Springs Cellars, the DA Ranch, Oak Creek Vineyards, or the Javelina Leap Winery for a wine-tasting tour.

And if you don’t want to drive, you can join a tour with the Wine Tours of Sedona to tour some of the top wineries in the region.
